Haynes Charter for Enriched Studies After school Music Program 2020

The New Haynes Charter for Enriched Studies After School Music Program is open to all students in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade.

The program is directed by Larry Newman and classes are taught by Lyn Bertles.

Instrument Choices
• Kindergarteners and first graders may choose the violin or recorder.
• Second and third graders may choose the violin, cello, ukulele, flute, clarinet, trumpet or pBone  mini.
• Fourth and fifth graders may choose the violin, cello, ukulele, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet or trombone.

Classes are held after school every Wednesday that school is in session beginning on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 concluding with a spring concert scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, 2020.

Small group classes will be scheduled every 30 – 40 minutes after school on Wednesdays after school between 2:40 – 5:00 PM.

Please have your child’s schedule clear for a 30 – 40 minute lesson during this time block.  Kindergarten and first grade students must be escorted to and from the music class by a parent or guardian.  Students in second grade and older waiting to take a later lesson often participate in another enrichment activity on campus, go home and return to campus for their lesson or attend LAUSD’s Beyond the Bell supervised yard program.

The exact schedule will be determined when enrollment is complete. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.  Our Kindergarten and first grade students will have the earlier lesson times.

The final schedule of classes will be emailed to all applicants a few days prior to the first day of class.

Program Costs
A fee of $395 is requested from each participant.  This fee covers weekly music instruction for the entire 2020 spring semester.

This fee covers all instructional costs as well as all music, books and basic supplies which your child is given throughout the semester. The only other expense will be the rental or purchase of the instrument.  Discounted rental and purchase prices have been arranged for participating music students through our instrument supplier –  The Instrument Place – including free delivery to school for the first lesson.
