The Westside Neighborhood School After School Instrumental Music Program is offered to all students in grades one through eight.

The program is directed by Larry Newman. Kathy Shaw is the music teaching specialist.

Lessons are are offered for begining students with no prior musical lessons as well as for students with some experience.

Instruction is offered on violin, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, and baritone horn.

First graders may only choose the violin.

Second graders may choose violin, flute, clarinet or trumpet.

Third graders and up may choose violin, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, and baritone horn.

Small group violin and cello classes will be scheduled every 30 - 40 minutes after school on Mondays after school from 3:10 - 5:20 PM.

Small group flute, clarinet, sax, trumpet and baritone horn classes will be scheduled every 30 - 40 minutes after school on Wednesdays after school from 3:10 - 4:10 PM.

Please have your child’s schedule clear for a 30 - 40 minute lesson during this time block. Beginning students will have the earlier lesson times.

The exact schedule will be determined when enrollment is complete. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. This flexibility allows us to properly group our classes by appropriate age, ability and instrumentation.

The final schedule of classes will be emailed to all applicants prior to the first day of class.

A one-time fee of $550 is requested to cover the 2012-2013 school year (October 2012 through May 2013). This price includes all music, books and basic supplies your child is given. The only other expense will be the purchase, lease or rental of the musical instrument.

Classes run from October 1, 2012 through May 2013, culminating with a school orchestra concert in May 2013.
