2017 Orchestra Photos

Thank you for your great teaching and a wonderful experience.  My children never read music notes nor played any instruments prior to joining Orchestra at Welby Way.  Now, they both read music notes and love the instruments they play.  My son will be attending Lawrence Magnet Middle School and most likely join the band with his saxophone.  My daughter will be joining the orchestra program at Welby again in the Fall.

A Welby Way Parent

Thank you so much for a beautiful concert.  The kids did great. Looking forward to next year’s concert.

Welby Way Instrumental Music Program

The 2016 -2017 Welby Way Instrumental Music Program is open to all students in grades one through five.

Weekly classes are offered each Friday after school. Classes are for beginning students with no prior instruction and for students with some prior experience.

The Welby Way Instrumental Music Program is is directed by Larry Newman.  Dr. Wendy Mazon, Ms. Bianca Samaniego and Mr. Dave Etterbeek are the music specialists.

• First graders may only choose the violin.
• Second graders may choose the violin, flute, clarinet, trumpet or pBone mini.
• Third, fourth and fifth graders may choose the violin, cello, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, pBone mini or trombone.

An introductory assembly for all students in the school will be held the morning of Thursday, August 18, 2016 in the auditorium. Parents are invited to attend.  Shows are at 8:20 AM, 9:00 AM and 9:40 AM.

Instruction begins on Friday, September 23, 2016 culminating with a school concert in April 2017.

Thirty to forty minute small group lessons will be held each Friday after school between 2:40 PM and 4:40 PM. Please keep that time block free on Fridays. This flexibility in scheduling will allow us to create classes best suited for the enrollment. All first graders will have their lesson immediately after dismissal beginning at 2:40 PM.  First graders must be picked up by a parent or guardian from the music class at the conclusion of the lesson.  There is no yard supervision for first graders.

The exact lesson schedule will be determined when enrollment is complete. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. To aid in your planning, note that beginning classes will be held earlier than intermediate and advanced level classes. The final schedule of classes will be emailed to all applicants prior to the first day of class.

A one-time fee of $565 is requested to cover the costs of this year’s 2016 – 2017 instrumental music program. This fee includes all instruction, sheet music, books and basic supplies which your child is given throughout the year as well as LAUSD room and facility fees. The only other expense is the lease, rental or purchase of the instrument. (Parents can order instruments online through The Instrument Place. Please click here to order and arrange for free delivery to school in time for the first lesson.)

Free Music Tuition and Instrument Rental
A parent volunteer is needed to assist students waiting to take their lesson on Fridays. If you are available every Friday from 2:40 – 4:40 PM to help, please email Mr. Newman. Parent volunteers receive a full tuition waiver and free instrument rental.
