The UCLA Lab School Instrumental
Music Program is provided as a regular part of the school’s
instructional program.
Larry Newman is the music director. Emily Senchuk, Laura Patterson, Debbie Klak, Lyn Bertles, Jonathan Terry, Julie Metz and Desiree' Deasy are the music
teaching specialists.
There is no
additional fee or charge for the music lessons. However, some non-instructional
costs may include music books, music supplies and the purchase, lease
or rental of the musical instrument. A limited number of school instruments are available on a first-come first served basis for students on fee waivers with priority given to first year students.
Students receive instruction
one day per week on the instrument of their choice.
Classes are for beginners as well as students with some previous
experience.
Instrument choices include flute, clarinet, alto
sax, trumpet, baritone horn, trombone, violin and cello.
Students must be at least seven years old to participate.
Seven year olds may choose only the violin.
Ages eight and up may choose any instrument except sax and baritone
horn. You must be nine or older to choose the sax or baritone horn.
Classes are held before school, Monday through
Friday, from 7:25 AM - 8:10 AM beginning the week of October 1. Classes begin promptly so plan to arrive BEFORE 7:25 AM to get seated, tuned and ready to play.

Fridays: Orchestra Strings in Community Hall with Desiree' Deasy
Fridays: Beginning Woodwinds and Brass in Extended Day Classroom with Jonathan Terry
Yard supervision has been arranged
for car pool members who are not involved in music class from
7:15 AM.
You will received a confirmation email a few days prior to the start of classes to confirm your class day.
A gala spring concert is scheduled for Friday, May
3, 2013 at 7:00 PM in the renowned Schoenberg Concert Hall Auditorium
on the UCLA campus.
Class size is limited and priority is given to
