The UCLA Lab School Instrumental Music Program is provided as a regular part of the school’s instructional program.
Larry Newman is the music preogram director. Emily Senchuk, Lyn Bertles, Jonathan Terry, Bianca Samaniego, Kate Lisman and Desiree’ Deasy are the music teaching specialists.
There is no additional fee or charge for the music lessons. However, some non-instructional costs may include music books, music supplies and the purchase, lease or rental of the musical instrument.
A limited number of school instruments are available on a first-come first served basis for students on fee waivers with priority given to first year students.
The Instrument Place offers free delivery to school for the first lesson.
Students receive instruction one day per week on the instrument of their choice.
Classes are for beginners as well as students with some previous experience.
Instrument choices include flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, pBone mini, baritone horn, trombone, violin and cello.
Students must be at least seven years old (second grade) to participate and may only choose the violin.
Ages eight (third grade) and up may choose any instrument except sax and baritone horn. You must be nine (fourth grade) or older to choose the sax or baritone horn.
Classes are held before school, Monday through Friday, from 7:25 AM – 8:10 AM beginning the week of September 29. Classes begin promptly so plan to arrive BEFORE 7:25 AM to get seated, tuned and ready to play.
