Topanga Elementary School Instrumental Music Program
The 2016 – 2017 Topanga Elementary School Instrumental Music Program is open to all students in grades one through five.
For more than twenty years, Topanga’s award-winning program has been directed by Larry Newman and offered as a regular part of the school day.
Beginning in the Fall of 2016, orchestra will no longer be a part of the regular school-day curriculum. However, orchestra classes can be taken after school on Thursdays.
• First graders may only choose the violin.
• Second graders may choose the violin, flute, clarinet, trumpet or pBone mini (child-sized trombone).
• Third, fourth and fifth graders may choose the ukulele, violin, cello, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, pBone mini or baritone horn.
Introductory student assembly will be presented in the auditorium to all grades on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 9:30 AM and 10:30 AM. Students will hear live demonstrations of the instruments and parents are cordially invited to attend.
Small group classes will be scheduled every 30 – 40 minutes after school on Thursdays after school from 1:45 – 4:45 PM beginning on Thursday, September 29, 2016 – culminating with a spring concert in May 2017.
The exact lesson schedule for Thursday afternoons will be determined when enrollment is complete. Please have your child’s schedule clear for a 30 – 40 minute lesson during this time block of 1:45 PM through 4:45 PM. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. The final schedule of classes will be emailed to all applicants prior to the first day of class.
A one-time fee of $550 is requested from each participant. This fee covers weekly music instruction for the entire 2016 – 2017 school year as well as all music, books and basic supplies which your child is given throughout the year. The only other expense will be the lease, rental or purchase of the instrument.
