School Instrumental Music Program is open to all students

Classes are offered every Friday during regular school hours beginning on October 7, 2011. Classes run through
the school year, culminating with a school orchestra concert
in June 2012.
To best accommodate all the students, the final schedule will be
determined when enrollment is complete. Students will be notified
of their lesson time by their classroom teacher and by e-mail.
INTRODUCTORY STUDENT ASSEMBLY
Students will be introduced to the instruments of the orchestra through live playing demonstrations on Thursday, September 22 in the school auditorium. Grades 1,2 and 3 at 9:30 AM and grades 4,5 and 6 at 10:30 AM.
FIRST GRADE MUSIC CLASSES
First graders may take the violin or recorder. (What is a recorder?)
Violins are fit to size the student (1/8
and 1/4 violins are most common for first graders). Recorders are provided free with enrollment in the class.
GRADES TWO THROUGH SIX CLASSES
Second graders may choose violin, recorder, flute, clarinet, or trumpet.
Third through sixth graders may choose violin, cello, flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, or baritone horn.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
A one-time music donation for the 2011-2012 school year
of $395 is requested to help cover the instructional costs
of this year’s instrumental music program. In addition, a $25 music supply fee covers all books,sheet music and basic supplies your child is given.
Limited financial aid is available to those who request
assistance and every attempt will be made to see that all students who
wish to participate are given the opportunity.
The only other expense will be the lease, rental or purchase
of the instrument.
Recorders are provided free with enrollment.
Through special arrangements with a local music retailer, instruments
are available for purchase, rent or lease-to-own at up to 45%
off the retail price for participating music students.

No musical experience is required to enroll in a beginning class.
Students with some prior experience will be placed in an intermediate
or advanced level ensemble depending on ability.
