Overland Elementary School for Advanced Studies Orchestra Program
The 2015 -2016 Overland Elementary School for Advanced Studies Orchestra Program is open to all students in grades one through five.
The program is directed by Larry Newman and classes are taught by the outstanding faculty of Children’s Music Workshop.
Instruction is available on violin, cello, flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, and pBone mini.
• First graders may only choose the violin.
• Second graders may choose violin, cello, flute, clarinet, trumpet or mini pBone.
• Third, fourth and fifth graders may choose violin, cello, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet or mini pBone. No musical experience is required to enroll in a beginning class.
Students with some prior experience will be placed in an intermediate or advanced level ensemble depending on ability.
A program orientation assembly will be presented on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 10:45 and 11:15 AM in the school auditorium. Students will be introduced to the instruments of the orchestra through live demonstrations.
Music classes run from October 6, 2015 through our concert on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 6:30 PM.
Thirty to forty minute classes are offered each Tuesday after school (early dismissal day) beginning on October 6, 2015.
Classes are taught between the hours of 1:45 and 3:45 PM. The exact time of your lesson will be announced after enrollment is complete. Please keep that time block open when registering for the program.
A parent volunteer proctors the “homework” room for students waiting to take their lesson on Tuesdays.
An instructional fee of $500 is requested from each participant. This fee covers weekly music instruction for the entire 2015 – 2016 school year. In addition, a $35 music fee covers all music, books and basic supplies which your child is given throughout the year. The only other expenses will be the lease, rental or purchase of the instrument.
Free Music Tuition and Instrument Rental
A parent volunteer is needed to proctor the students waiting to take their lesson on Tuesdays. If you are available every Tuesday from 1:30 – 3:00 PM to help, please email Mr. Newman. Parent volunteers receive a full tuition waiver and free instrument rental.
