Overland Elementary School for Advanced Studies Orchestra Program

The Overland Elementary School for Advanced Studies Orchestra Program is open to all students in grades one through five.

The program is directed by Larry Newman and classes are taught by the outstanding faculty of Children’s Music Workshop.

Instruction is available on:
Violin, cello, flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, and mini pBone.

First graders may only choose the violin.

Second graders may choose violin, cello, flute, clarinet, trumpet or mini pBone.

Third, fourth and fifth graders may choose violin, cello, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet or mini pBone. No musical experience is required to enroll in a beginning class.

Students with some prior experience will be placed in an intermediate or advanced level ensemble depending on ability.

A program orientation assembly will be presented on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 10:45 and 11:15 AM in the school auditorium. Students will be introduced to the instruments of the orchestra through live demonstrations.

Music classes run from October 7, 2014 through our concert on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 6:30 PM.

Thirty to forty minute classes are offered each Tuesday after school (early dismissal day) beginning on October 7, 2014.

Classes are taught between the hours of 1:45 and 3:45 PM. The exact time of your lesson will be announced after enrollment is complete. Please keep that time block open when registering for the program.

A parent volunteer proctors the “homework” room for students waiting to take their lesson on Tuesdays.

A one-time fee of $495 is requested to cover the instructional costs of this year’s instrumental music program.

The only other expenses will be the lease, rental or purchase of the instrument and a $25 supply fee which covers all music, books, and basic supplies such as strings, valve oil, reeds, recorders, etc. which your child is given throughout the school year.

Order your violin, cello, flute, clarinet, sax, trumpet or baritone horn now and get free deliver to school for the first day of lesson on October 7 from The Instrument Place.

Applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. This is a year long program. Instruction runs through May 5, 2015.
