ENROLLMENT ENDS ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2012
All applications after that date will be placed on the wait list.
The Marquez Charter Elementary
School Instrumental Music Program is
open to all students in grades one through five.
The program is directed by Larry Newman.
Debbie Klak and Mandy Fey are the music specialists.
Weekly classes
are offered for 30 to 40 minutes each Wednesday during regular school
hours beginning Wednesday, September 19, 2012.
Students leave their regular classroom at the assigned
music time to take their lesson.
Instruction is available
on recorder, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, baritone horn,
trombone, violin and cello.
First graders may only choose the violin
or recorder. Recorders are provided free with enrollment in the class.
(What is a recorder?)
Second graders may choose recorder, flute, clarinet, trumpet or violin.
Third grade and higher may choose flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, baritone horn, trombone, violin or cello.
Because
of the nature of a pull-out program, orchestra students must maintain
their academics or they will not be allowed to participate. The orchestra
program requires a one year commitment and regular home practice.
To best accommodate all the students, the final schedule will be
determined when enrollment is complete.
Students will be notified of their lesson time by their classroom
teacher and by e-mail.
Classes run from September through May (approx. 30 weeks), culminating
with a spring concert in May 2013.
A one-time music donation of $420 is requested to help cover the
instructional costs of this year’s instrumental music program. In
addition, a $20 music/supply fee is requested to cover all music
books, sheet music and basic supplies such as reeds, valve oil,
violin rosin, etc. which your child is given.
This fee is payable to Friends of Marquez Orchestra Fund. The
only other expense will be the lease, rental or purchase of the
instrument. Through our instrument supplier, String Season, instruments can be ordered online now for free delivery to school for the first lesson on September 19. Recorders are provided free of charge.
A limited number of scholarships are available to those who request
them and every attempt will be made to see that ALL STUDENTS who
wish to participate are given the opportunity.
