Important Update Regarding Next School Year:
Due to new LAUSD policies, the Marquez Instrumental Music Program will no longer be offered to students beginning in 2017-2018 as part of their regular school-day curriculum. We regret to see this program ended after thirty years of offering music instruction to thousands of Marquez students.
Marquez Instrumental Music Program
The 2016 – 2017 Marquez Charter Elementary School Instrumental Music Program is open to all students in grades one through five.
For the past thirty years at Marquez, this award-winning school orchestra program has directed by Larry Newman (B.MusEd, M.Music, California State Teachers Certificate in K-12 Music). Debbie Klak is the strings specialist and Mandy Fey is the woodwind and brass specialist.
Instruction is available on flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, baritone horn, pBone mini, violin, cello and ukulele.
• First graders may only choose the violin.
• Second graders may choose violin, flute, clarinet, trumpet or pBone mini.
• Third graders and higher may choose violin, cello, flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, pBone mini or ukulele.
Scholarships and free instrument rentals are available to anyone who requests them. No child will be denied the opportunity to participate due to financial concerns. The Marquez Music Program is supported in part by the GSI Foundation and other non-profit partners. For information on how to donate, please visit our donation page.
