Kenter Canyon Charter Elementary School Instrumental Music Program
The 2015 -2016 Kenter Canyon Charter Elementary School Instrumental Music Program is open to all students in grades one through five.
For more than twenty years, the Kenter orchestra program has been directed by Larry Newman. This year’s music specialists are Mandy Fey (winds) and Desiree’ Deasy (strings).
Weekly classes are offered for 30 to 40 minutes each Friday during the regular school day.
Instruction is available on recorder, ukulele, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, p-Bone mini, baritone horn, trombone, violin and cello.
• First graders may only choose the violin or recorder. Recorders are provided free with enrollment in the class.
• Second graders may choose flute, clarinet, trumpet, p-Bone mini or violin.
• Third graders may choose ukulele, flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, p-Bone mini, baritone horn, trombone, violin or cello.
• Fourth and fifth graders may choose ukulele, flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, p-Bone mini, baritone horn, trombone, violin or cello.
No musical experience is required to enroll in a beginning class.
Students with some prior experience will be placed in an intermediate or advanced level ensemble depending on ability.
To best accommodate all the students, the final schedule will be determined when enrollment is complete. Students will be notified of their lesson time by their classroom teacher and by e-mail.
An orchestra recruitment assembly will be presented to all students on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 8:30 and 9:10 AM in the auditorium. Parents are welcome to attend.
Instruction begins on Friday, October 2, 2015 and runs through the school year, culminating with concerts on Thursday, May 26 at 4:00 PM (beginners) and 6:30 PM (orchestra) in the auditorium.
A one-time music donation of $520 is requested to cover the instructional costs of this year’s instrumental music program. This fee covers all music, books and basic supplies which your child is given. The only other expense will be the lease, rental or purchase of the instrument. Order your instrument online now through The Instrument Place and they will deliver free to school for the first lesson on October 2.
Limited financial aid is available and every attempt will be made to see that ALL STUDENTS who wish to participate are given the opportunity. No child will be denied the opportunity to participate due to financial concerns.
Class size is limited so please submit your registration ASAP to reserve your place in the class.

Be sure to include your child’s name and school on the check. We will hold your online registration for 72 hours pending the receipt of your check at our P.O. Box address above.
Through special arrangements with The Instrument Place, students in the Children’s Music Workshop school music programs can get discounted prices on instrument rentals, leases and purchases.
All instruments are delivered free to school in time for the first lesson.
