The After School Music Program at Jefferson Elementary
The 2015 – 2016 After School Music Program at Jefferson Elementary is open to all students in grades one through five.
Weekly classes are offered each Friday after school at Jefferson Elementary for beginning students with no prior instruction as well as students with some experience.
This award winning program is directed by Larry Newman and classes are taught by music specialist Victoria Sabonjohn.
• First graders may choose to learn the violin.
• Second graders may choose the violin, flute, clarinet, trumpet or pBone mini.
• Third, fourth and fifth graders may choose the violin, cello, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, or pBone mini.
Thirty to forty minute small group lessons will be held each Friday after school between 3:05 PM and 4:10 PM. Please keep that time block free on Fridays. This flexibility in scheduling will allow us to create classes best suited for the enrollment.
The exact lesson schedule will be determined when enrollment is complete. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. To aid in your planning, note that beginning classes will be held earlier than orchestra level classes and first graders will meet immediately after dismissal at 3:05 PM.
An instructional fee of $500 is requested from each participant. This fee covers weekly music instruction for the entire 2015-2016 orchestra session (September 2015 through April 2016) as well as all music books and basic supplies which your child is given. In addition, due to a more than tripling of district facility charges this year, a $55 fee is required to help cover these new BUSD imposed charges. Free Music Tuition and Instrument Rental
A parent volunteer is needed to assist students waiting to take their lesson on Fridays get to their class. If you are available every Friday from 3:00 PM – 4:15 PM to help, please email Mr. Newman. Parent volunteers receive a full tuition waiver and free instrument rental.
This is a year long commitment. Classes begin on Friday, September 25, 2015 and end on Friday, April 15, 2016.

Class size is limited and priority is given to the earliest applicants. Please complete the online application to reserve a spot.
