The After School Music Program for Jefferson Elementary
The 2016 – 2017 After School Music Program for Jefferson Elementary is open to all students in grades one through five.
Weekly classes are offered each Tuesday after school on the Bret Harte campus for beginning students with no prior instruction as well as students with some experience.
This award winning program is directed by Larry Newman and taught by the faculty of Children’s Music Workshop.
• First graders may choose to learn the violin.
• Second graders may choose the violin, flute, clarinet, trumpet or pBone mini.
• Third, fourth and fifth graders may choose the violin, cello, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, or pBone mini.
Thirty to forty minute small group lessons will be held each Tuesday after school at Bret Harte Elementary between 1:55 PM and 4:45 PM. Please keep that time block free on Tuesdays. This flexibility in scheduling will allow us to create classes best suited for the enrollment.
For planning purposes, please note that beginning first and second grade classes will generally begin earlier in the afternoon than upper grade classes.
Please note that parents are responsible for their child before and after the music lesson. We can only provide supervision during the student’s lesson time. Please plan to arrive five minutes early for the lesson to get set-up and ready to play. Students must be picked up at the music room by a parent promptly at the conclusion of the lesson.
An instructional fee of $500 is requested from each participant. This fee covers weekly music instruction for the entire 2016-2017 orchestra session (September 2016 through April 2017) as well as all music books and basic supplies which your child is given. In addition, a $55 fee is required to help cove BUSD imposed charges.

This is a year-long commitment. Classes begin Tuesday, September 20, 2016 – culminating with a school orchestra concert on Tuesday, April 11, 2017.
Class size is limited so please submit your registration ASAP to reserve your place in the class.
