If you

The Helmers Elementary School Instrumental Music Program is open to all students in grades one through six.

An introductory assembly to present the program details will be held in the MPR on Tuesday, August 20. All students in the school will attend this presentation. Parents are invited to attend, too.

Recorder, flute, clarinet, alto sax and trumpet will be offered on Tuesdays after school.

Violin and cello will be offered on Thursdays after school.

(First grade violin students may be spilt into two sections - one on Tuesdays and one on Thursdays depending on enrollment.)

Small group classes will be scheduled every 30 - 40 minutes between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM for first and second graders and 3:00 PM and 5:30 PM for third through sixth graders. On minimum days (12:30 PM dismissal) all classes will be held one hour and fifteen minutes earlier than usual. (Instruction will begin at 12:45 PM.)

Exact lesson times will be emailed to all enrolled students once enrollment is complete.

First & second graders may only choose the violin or recorder. (What is a recorder?)

Third graders may choose the violin, flute, clarinet, or trumpet.

Fourth, fifth and sixth graders may choose the violin, cello, flute, clarinet, alto sax or trumpet and baritone horn.

Classes are for beginning students with no prior experience on their chosen instrument as well as experienced players.

The program is directed by Larry Newman. Desiree’ Deasy is the music instructor.

Instruction begins on Tuesday, September 24 (winds) and Thursday, September 26, (strings) and runs through the school year, culminating with a school concert in May 2014.

A music fee of $300 for the 2013-2014 school year (approx. 30 instructional weeks) is requested from each participant.

This fee includes all music, books and basic supplies which your child is given.

Additionally, this year there will be an additional $30 fee to cover the Saugus Union School District imposed facility charges.

The only other expense will be the lease, rental or purchase of the instrument. (Recorders are provided free with enrollment.)
