Learn more about this special performance opportunity

The Fairburn Ave. Elementary School Instrumental Music Program is open to all students in grades one through five.

Dave Etterbeek is the woodwind & brass specialist. Debbie Klak is the strings specialist. Larry Newman is the music director.

A demonstration of all the instruments will be presented in a school-wides assembly on Wednesday, September 11 at 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM in the auditorium. Parents are invited to attend.

Instruction is available on violin, cello, recorder, flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, mini- pBone, and baritone horn.

First graders may choose the violin or recorder. (What is a recorder?)

Second graders may choose the violin, recorder, flute, clarinet, trumpet or mini pBone.

Third through fifth graders may choose the violin, cello, flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, mini pBone or baritone horn.

No musical experience is required to enroll in a beginning class.

Instruction runs from Tuesday, October 1, 2013 through the 2013-2014 school year, culminating with a school orchestra concert in May 2014.

The orchestra program requires a one year commitment and regular home practice.

A one-time annual fee of $520 is requested from each participant to cover weekly instruction (October 2013 through May 2014). This fee includes all music, books and basic supplies which your child is given.

The only other expense will be the lease, rental or purchase of the instrument. (Recorders are provided free with enrollment.)

Thirty to forty minute classes are offered each Tuesday after school (early dismissal day) beginning on October 1.

Please have the after school time available from 1:45 - 4:30 PM. The exact time of your lesson will be announced after enrollment is compete. To help you plan, the beginning classes are usually held earlier than the intermediate and advanced classes.

A parent volunteer is needed to proctor the students waiting to take their lesson on Tuesdays. If you are available every Tuesday from 1:30 - 3:30 PM to help, please email Mr. Newman. Parent volunteers receive a full tuition waiver and free instrument rental.

Through special arrangements with a local music retailer, instruments are available for purchase, rent or lease-to-own at up to 45% off the retail price for participating music students.

Visit The Instrument Place for more information and to place your order for delivery to school in time for the first lesson.
