WINTER / SPRING UPDATE FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS
• We are offering a Winter/Spring session for orchestra level students who wish to learn the spring honor orchestra music and participate in the All Schools Honor Orchestra at UCLA on May 7, 2016.
• The class will run from Thursday, December 3 through the end of May 2016 – culminating with a school concert on May 24, 2016. Instruction will be given every Thursday morning in the PAC from 7:15 AM – 7:55 AM with Amanda Fuerst. Cost for the class is $350.

Calvary Christian School Instrumental Music Program
The 2015 – 2016 Calvary Christian School Instrumental Music Program is open to all students from grade one and higher.
The award winning Children’s Music Workshop program is directed by Larry Newman. Amanda Fuerst is the winds specialist and Morgan Lee Gerstmar is the strings specialist.
Weekly classes are offered for 30 – 40 minutes each Monday after school beginning on Monday, September 28, 2015.
• First graders may only choose the violin.
• Second graders may choose the violin, flute, clarinet, trumpet or pBone mini.
• Third graders may choose the ukulele, violin, flute, clarinet, trumpet or pBone mini.
• Fourth grade and higher may choose the ukulele, violin, cello, flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet or pBone mini.
Classes are for beginning students with no prior experience on their chosen instrument as well as for students with prior lessons and experience.
Small group instruction (6 to 12 students) will take place on Mondays between the hours of 3:00 and 5:00 PM beginning on Monday, September 28, 2015 and concluding with a school orchestra concert on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 6:00 PM. The final schedule and location of classes will be announced via email after enrollment is complete. (First grade students will have their lesson immediately after dismissal at 3:00 PM.)
Please clear your child’s schedule on Mondays from 3:00 – 5:00 PM so that he/she is available for their particular lesson time when it is announced. If there is a conflict with a sports practice, coaches and teachers will work out a solution so that students can do both activities.
Students may drop their instruments off in the PAC before school. Please send your instrument to school with your student on Monday mornings.
Students who have later starting classes may do homework in the library until their lesson time.
Free Tuition/Music Rental for Parent Music Helper
Students waiting to take their music lesson can do homework in the library after school. A parent helper is needed on Mondays afternoons to proctor students who are studying in the library while they wait to attend their lesson. If you are available to help on a weekly basis every Monday from 3:15 – 4:30 PM, please email Mr. Newman. Volunteers will receive free music tuition and a free instrument rental for the school year.
Music Instructional Fees
A music fee of $500 is requested from each participant to cover the entire school year of weekly music lessons. Additionally, a $35 music fee covers all music, books and basic supplies which your child is given throughout the year.
The only other expense will be the lease, rental or purchase of the instrument. Instruments are available for up to 45% off the retail price for participating music students through our instrument supplier. Order online now and get free delivery to school for the first lesson. All students must be picked up promptly when their class ends. Please park in the church lot and walk up to the PAC by the time your child’s class ends and wait outside the PAC door. Any student who is not picked up on time will be sent to the library. After the library closes at 4:30, students not picked up on time will remain in the PAC and incur a late pick-up fee of $1 per minute. Please pick-up your child on time.
Class size is limited and priority is given to the earliest applicants. Please complete the online application to reserve a spot.
