The Bret Harte After School Music Conservatory is offered for all students in grades one through five.
The program is directed by Larry Newman. Brenda Etterbeek is the music teaching specialist.
Weekly classes are offered each Tuesday after school at Bret Harte Elementary School for beginning students with no prior instruction or musical experience as well as students who have studied previously.
Instruction is available on violin, cello, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, baritone horn and trombone.
First graders may only choose the violin.
Second graders may choose violin, flute, clarinet or trumpet.
Third grade and higher may choose violin, cello, flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, baritone horn or trombone.
An introductory assembly will be presented on Friday, August 24 at 1:15 and 2:00 PM in the school auditorium for all Bret Harte students. Students will see and hear the instruments of the orchestra. Parents are welcome to attend.
Thirty to forty minute small group lessons will be held each Tuesday after school between 1:30 PM and 6:00 PM. Please keep that time block free on Tuesdays. This flexibility in scheduling will allow us to create classes best suited for the enrollment.
Lessons are held in Room 25. The exact lesson schedule with times will be determined when enrollment is complete. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
For planning purposes, please note that beginning first and second grade classes will generally begin earlier in the afternoon than upper grade classes.
The instructional cost for this program is $455 for the entire 2012-2013 school year.
The only other costs will be the rental or purchase of an instrument and a $30 music fee which covers all books, music and basic supplies needed throughout the year.
