Children’s Music Workshop
For more than three decades, Children’s Music Workshop, founded and directed by music educator, author, and professional trumpet player Larry Newman, has introduced children to the joy of making music.
What began as a commitment to providing high-quality instrumental music instruction grew into programs serving more than 100 schools and thousands of young musicians throughout the Los Angeles area. Over the years, Children’s Music Workshop has provided band, orchestra, recorder, guitar, and other instrumental music programs for elementary school students, along with concerts, ensembles, and special performance opportunities.
The philosophy has always been straightforward: children learn best when excellent instruction is combined with music they enjoy playing. Programs are designed to give students a strong musical foundation while making their first experiences with an instrument positive, successful, and fun.
A Tradition of School Music Programs
Children’s Music Workshop has worked with public, private, independent, and charter schools throughout Southern California, helping schools establish and maintain instrumental music programs for their students.
Today, Children’s Music Workshop continues to welcome inquiries from schools interested in bringing instrumental music instruction to their students. Every program is considered individually, with the goal of finding the right approach for each school and its community.
Larry’s many years in the classroom also revealed a need for beginning music books created specifically for young students. He began writing materials that progressed at an age-appropriate pace, incorporated familiar music, and reflected the practical lessons learned from teaching thousands of beginning musicians.
Those teaching materials eventually developed into an extensive publishing catalog covering band and orchestra instruments, piano, guitar, ukulele, recorder, ensembles, seasonal music, and numerous resources for teachers and young musicians.
From the Classroom to Music Fun Books
That publishing work is now featured at Music Fun Books, where teachers, parents, schools, and young musicians can explore hundreds of instructional books, downloadable music, free resources, audio tracks, video lessons, and other materials developed from decades of experience teaching children to play music.
